			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<blockquote><p>Spring registration begins tomorrow November 1, 2011. You can access Connect Carolina to register for the spring at <a href="http://my.unc.edu/">http://my.unc.edu</a> and then click on “ConnectCarolina Student Center”. Once you sign in with your ONYEN, the next page of your Student Center will have a menu named “Academics” and this is where you can find options for course searches, enrollment, holds, and your schedule.</p>
<p>It is recommended that you request a deferment of you tuition and fees for spring 2012. The instructions are below:</p>
<p>To DEFER your bill: log-in to <a href="http://www.unc.edu/offline/portal/">MyUNC</a> and select ConnectCarolina Student Center.  Look at the Finances Section and select ACCOUNT INQUIRY under My Account.  Click the Account Services tab and select request deferment.  Click the box for Financial Aid Deferment AND the Statement of Understanding and then click submit.  There will be a confirmation screen after you hit submit, click OK.  Click the Account Inquiry tab to see the updated due date for deferred charges.  Please note that the due date on the invoice will not change, only the due dates for the individual deferred charges, which you can see in the &#8220;Details by Due Date&#8221; section.</p>
<p><strong>Registration Tips:</strong></p>
<p>1. <strong> If you HAVE NOT completed your preliminary oral exam</strong>:<br />
a. You must register for at least 9 credit hours to be considered a full-time student.<br />
1. First year students should consult with your potential research advisor for the appropriate courses. If you have not joined a group at this time then contact the faculty member you spoke with during orientation.<br />
2. Second year students must register for your research advisor&#8217;s Divisional Research Chem 9*1 (see attachment for appropriate course number and section) for 7 credit hours<br />
b. First and second year students must register for the appropriate divisional seminar (see attachment).</p>
<p>2. <strong>If you HAVE completed your preliminary oral exam (3rd year + students) and are a PhD candidate</strong>:<br />
a. You only need to register for 3 credit hours of <strong>CHEM 994 to be considered a full-time student.</strong>Use the three-digit section number for your research advisor to find your section of Chem 994 in Connect Carolina (see attachment).<br />
b. You are not required to enroll in your divisional seminar course, although your division may require that you continue to participate in them (see your advisor for more details).</p>
<p>3. If <strong>you are a Master’s candidate</strong>:<br />
a. You need to register for 3 credit hours of CHEM 992 (non-thesis) or CHEM 993 (thesis), using your advisor’s three digit section number (see attachment).<br />
b. First and second year students must register for the appropriate divisional seminar (see attachment).</p>
